Quest Overseas: Kenya Water Relief Project

Kenya along with other areas in the horn of Africa has been hit by a crippling drought. With hundreds of thousands of people facing continued malnutrition help is desperately needed to improve water conservation and supply. Our partners in this project are Excellent Development, a specialist charity that works with determined communities on tackling the short and long-term problems of deforestation and water shortages. Our teams work with these community members in the construction of life changing sand dams.

The building of the sand dams requires a huge amount of labour and person power. Sand dams are something of a miracle they can provide up to 10 million litres of clean drinking water. Furthermore the benefits include an improvement in food supply, health and education. The work is hard but you are spurred on by a carnivalesque atmosphere. Lots of singing and laughter encourages everyone as the dam takes shape. There are plenty of tea breaks and a big lunch is cooked for the whole team to keep energy levels high. Rarely can a project o such importance be so socially stimulating at the same time.
