One of the world's leading universities
Described by The Sunday Times University Guide 2013 as "one of the first [universities] to embrace a truly international approach to higher education", The University of Nottingham is ranked in the UK's top 10 and the world's top 75 universities by the Shanghai Jiao Tong (SJTU) and QS World University Rankings, placing it in the top 1% of all universities worldwide. Nottingham is a founder member of the Russell Group which comprises a group of leading UK universities committed to maintaining the very best research and outstanding teaching and learning. In 2012 we welcomed over 160 US and 60 Canadian students to our UK campus, and we have a history of welcoming Fulbright and Marshall Scholarship winners and visiting academics from North America.
Scholarships and Support for Students from Canada
The University offers a range of scholarships for bachelors and graduate students from Canada and we have dedicated International Office staff who can support you through your student life. Our Students' Union is one of the most active in the UK and offers over 240 societies and over 75 sports clubs to choose from, all run by students for students – from our AmeriCan Society to the Travel Society; Jiu-Jitsu to Gliding; Magic Soc to Cake Soc – there's a society or club for literally every taste.
The City of Nottingham
Located in the heart of England, Nottingham is a vibrant city, rich in heritage and culture. You can visit the haunts of Robin Hood or venture into the city's caves and castle. Nottingham is officially rated as one of the best cities for shopping outside of London and has a wide range of sporting venues including the National Ice Centre and the National Water Sports Centre.
The city's nightlife is legendary with live music venues, clubs, theatres and bars. Nottingham was named one of the best and safest places for a night out in the UK in 2011 and is one of only 16 places in the UK to have a Purple Flag Award in recognition of its efforts to be a safe and pleasant place to be after dark. Nottingham is less than two hours travel from London, with excellent transport links to the capital and the rest of the UK.
Campuses
Nottingham is famous for its beautiful campuses. Having hosted guest lectures from great 21st century thinkers such as Albert Einstein and Mahatma Gandhi, our 330 acre University Park Campus is widely regarded as one of the most attractive campuses in the UK, with established woodland, landscaped gardens and period buildings set around a large boating lake. A mile from University Park, Jubilee Campus is an award-winning, forward-looking campus that combines striking architecture, innovative technology and green spaces. Our Sutton Bonington Campus is set in beautiful south Nottinghamshire countryside, and occupies a spacious 100-acre site with its own teaching and learning facilities, sports centre, student guild, social amenities and halls of residence.
We also have two ground-breaking overseas campuses in Ningbo, China and Semenyih, Malaysia. Students at our UK campuses may spend part of their course at one of these overseas campuses under our Inter-Campus Exchange programme, or at one of our many partner universities under the Erasmus Programme or the Universitas 21 network.
